SUMMARY:Book Talk: Norah O'Donnell\, "We the Women"
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Fishers Island Library\, we’re pleased to host Norah O’Donnell as she discusses her new book\, “We the Women”. \nWe will have complimentary refreshments\, and books for sale at the event. \n  \nOver a decades-long\, distinguished career\, award-winning journalist Norah O’Donnell has made it her mission to shed light on untold women’s stories. Now\, in honor of America’s 250th birthday\, O’Donnell focuses that passion on sharing the stories of American heroines who helped change the course of history. \n \n  \nWE THE WOMEN presents a new and extraordinary retelling of American history through the eyes of women\, introducing us to inspiring patriots who demanded that the country live up to the promises made 250 years ago in the Declaration of Independence: that “all men are created equal\, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights\, that among those are Life\, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The pressing question from women since the signing of the document has been: Why don’t those unalienable rights apply to us? \nThrough extensive research and interviews\, as well as old photos and historic documents\, O’Donnell curates a compelling portrait of these fierce fighters for freedom. From Mary Katharine Goddard\, who printed the first signed Declaration of Independence\, to the Forten family women\, considered the “Black Founders” of Philadelphia who were active in the abolition and suffrage movements\, to the first women who served in the Armed Forces even before they had the right to vote\, O’Donnell brings these extraordinary women together for the first time\, and in doing so\, writes the American story anew. \nNorah O’Donnell is a multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist with nearly three decades of experience covering the biggest stories in the world and conducting impactful\, news-making interviews. She is CBS News’ Senior Correspondent\, focused on big interviews and projects for the network\, and spent five years as the anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News the oldest and most revered evening news broadcast in America. O’Donnell anchors CBS News Election Specials and is a 60 Minutes contributing correspondent. She is married to the bacon-loving Geoff Tracy\, otherwise known as Chef Geoff\, and is the mother of three children.

SUMMARY:Book Talk: Kate Doerge\, "Reimagining Grief"
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Fishers Island Library\, we’re pleased to host Kate Doerge as she discusses her new book\, “Reimagining Grief”. \nWe will have complimentary refreshments\, and books for sale at the event. \n  \n \nAn inspiring guide that reimagines the stages of grief into five healing actions. \nThere is no way to spin grief. It’s hard. It’s messy. It’s destabilizing. And every single one of us has to go through it. \nAuthor and Grief Coach Kate Doerge knows this too well. Over six years\, she lost her father to heart failure and her mother in a car accident five days before Christmas. She also faced the hardest challenge for any parent\, losing her sixteen-year-old daughter\, Penny\, to complications from a rare genetic condition. \nAfter Penny’s death\, Kate knew she had a choice\, she could lose herself to a grief so powerful she might not come back from it—or she could find another way through. Reimagining Grief is the result of that search. \nDrawing from her own experience\, the latest research\, and conversations with others who have faced devastating loss\, Kate offers five actions that can help ground you when you feel out of control\, lift you when you’re depleted\, and help you process the pain of loss. \nIn this book\, you’ll learn: \n● Why there isn’t one right way to grieve—and how to find your own path \n● An approach to saying goodbye that honors both you and your loved one \n● The 5 Actions Through Grief and how to use them to heal–Connect with Others\, Celebrate Your Loved Ones\, Be Open to the Signs\, Get Moving\, and Turn Pain into Purpose \n● What post-traumatic growth really looks like \n● How to find joy again \nThese actions won’t make grief vanish or disappear; everyone has to go through the difficult path that you are put on after losing someone you loved deeply. However\, Reimagining Grief offers some light and healing in the midst of darkness and a different way forward. \nThis is the book Kate wishes she’d had. She wrote it for you.
