DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Fishers Island Library\, we’re pleased to host Norah O’Donnell as she discusses her new book\, “We the Women”. \nWe will have complimentary refreshments\, and books for sale at the event. \n  \nOver a decades-long\, distinguished career\, award-winning journalist Norah O’Donnell has made it her mission to shed light on untold women’s stories. Now\, in honor of America’s 250th birthday\, O’Donnell focuses that passion on sharing the stories of American heroines who helped change the course of history. \n \n  \nWE THE WOMEN presents a new and extraordinary retelling of American history through the eyes of women\, introducing us to inspiring patriots who demanded that the country live up to the promises made 250 years ago in the Declaration of Independence: that “all men are created equal\, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights\, that among those are Life\, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The pressing question from women since the signing of the document has been: Why don’t those unalienable rights apply to us? \nThrough extensive research and interviews\, as well as old photos and historic documents\, O’Donnell curates a compelling portrait of these fierce fighters for freedom. It stars the dean of the Columbia Film Department\, Rob King\, and has a cameo by Tony Danza. \n“Once Upon a Pattern” — Alex Wolf\nAlex Wolf is a RISD sculptor and the inventor of the Pattern Alphabet\, a set of nature’s core patterns used by NASA in their AI and tested for UNICEF for preschool spatial literacy. Research shows that by age 4\, kids can see these forms in the PatternABC\, which was tested multiple summers at IPP with kids 4–10. DaVinci Vision is learning to see form like an artist and function like a scientist. \nFishers Island Filmmaking Workshop – Community Films \n“April” — Eliza Schmidt\nSpring comes late and leaves quickly on the island. April is fleeting. This is April. \n“Today Is a Gift” — Rosanna Anderson\nOn two beautiful days in April\, I filmed the waves and birds at South Beach\, and was delighted when a plane landed at Elizabeth Field and a big ship passed by. DESCRIPTION:Join Mark Albers\, MD\, PhD\, a leading neurologist and researcher for a Guest Lecture as he shares insights into memory\, the brain\, and how our sense of smell could unlock earlier diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases and guide treatment plans in the future. \nThank you to Mary Jo Chapoton and Jim Carney for making this event possible. \nMark Albers\, MD\, PhD \nAfter earning both his PhD from Harvard University and his MD through the Harvard Medical School and MIT Health Sciences & Technology program\, Dr. Albers completed his clinical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital before conducting research at Columbia University. \nToday\, he cares for patients in the Memory Disorders Unit at Mass General while leading research into how changes in our sense of smell may provide one of the earliest indicators of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. \nDr. Albers served as a member of the American Academy of Neurology’s Translational Neuroscience Committee and is internationally recognized for his work developing innovative approaches to the early detection of brain disease and to new treatments. \nAs part of his visit\, Dr. Albers will be discussing a new brain health test based on the sense of smell that can be done at home. Complimentary tests will be made available to attendees who would like to take one home and try it.
